Venture Building and Early-stage Investments

As society transitions towards a sustainable future and green energy becomes central to today’s market, businesses must adapt. Positioning or further developing a company in this competitive landscape often requires access to capital.

Whether you are an early-stage company working on your business model, developing a product, or building a portfolio of impact investments, we can assist you in benchmarking against internationally recognized sustainability standards.

We bring solid experience in assessing the sustainability of business models and products across all phases of the early-stage segment—from raising capital in pre-seed and seed rounds to Series A.

For venture capital and impact funds, we have developed comprehensive sustainability due diligence policy frameworks.

Projects

Denmark’s Sovereign Fund (Vækstfonden) / Danmark’s Grønne Investeringsfond (2021)

Development of a sustainability due diligence policy framework for the Green Future Fund (Den Grønne Fremtidsfond), a state-guaranteed DKK 25Bn fund. Vækstfonden and Denmark’s Green Investment Fund jointly managed DKK 10Bn to support early-stage companies, SMEs, venture/impact funds, and green transition projects.

We collaborated with Vækstfonden and Denmark’s Green Investment Fund to create the due diligence policy and management system for assessing SMEs and funds seeking debt or equity under the Green Future Fund. The framework aligned with the EU Taxonomy for Environmentally Sustainable Economic Activities and was informed by expert interviews and other sustainability frameworks.

Our work included designing a custom training program for investment managers and directors, which was later adapted into the onboarding process for new employees.

Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund -EIFO (2023-24)

EIFO was formed and came into effect in 2023 by merging the three state-owned funds EKF Denmark’s Export Credit Agency, the Danish Sovereign Fund Vækstfonden and Denmark’s Green Investment Fond. EIFO continued to manage the mandate of Denmark’s Green Future Fund (den Grønne Fremtidsfond).

We have assisted in performing sustainability assessment of more than 20 start-up / early stage within a wide range of circular business models, technologies and products all related to the green transition of our society. The sustainability assessment approach is aligned with the EU Taxonomy on Environmentally Sustainable Investments and adapted to early-stage enterprises / Venture and Impact Funds.

The work comprised a review of disclosed documentation and research, interviews with company representatives, and, when necessary, inspections of pilot plants or production facilities.
